Industry Updates

1) NWHSU Releases Policy Recommendations to Increase Access to CIH for Medicare and Medicaid Populations

Medical Recommendation

Congress has been considering how to broaden healthcare access by reforming the Medicare and Medicaid programs. To that end, Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU) recently released a paper underscoring how expanding Medicare and Medicaid access to chiropractic and acupuncture could better patient outcomes at a lower cost.

The paper, Closing Conservative Care Coverage Gaps in Medicare and Medicaid, recommended the following changes:

  • Medicare and Medicaid coverage should include chiropractic and acupuncture care which will help both the system and patient save on costs
  • Do away with restrictive regulations that prevent CIH professionals from delivering Medicare and Medicaid benefits
  • Include chiropractors and licensed acupuncturists in the reimbursement program for similar clinical services offered by other health care professionals
  • More extensive coverage of the opioid misuse and poor pain management crises

2) Four National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) Directors Resign after Conflicts of Interest Related to a Lawsuit

Resignations

Following a determination by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE), four directors have resigned from the board. According to an email by the NBCE, the directors left due to conflicts of interests related to a lawsuit filed by Dr. Keita Vanterpool against the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards (FCLB), Fr. Carol Winkler, and Dr. Karlos Boghosian.

NBCE's purpose is to develop and administer fair and reliable examinations for the various healing arts to set a competence standard to ensure public safety.

The four directors who resigned from the board are:

  1.  Kimberly Driggers, JD, At Large Director
  2. Michael Fedorczyk, DC, District II Director
  3.  John McGinnis, DC, District V Director
  4.  Jason Young, DC, At Large Director

The CEO of NBCE, Norman Ouzts stated that the board unanimously agrees that there were indeed conflicts of interest. However, he said that the implications of those conflicts were disputed among the board’s directors. Ouzts also assured that the NBCE is working openly to dispel inaccurate information about the case and urged media sources to restrain from mudslinging.

Growing Your Practice

1) The Ultimate Guide to Digital Marketing for Chiropractors

Digital Marketing

A vast majority of Americans spend most of their time online. This arms patients with enough information to enable them to make more informed decisions about their health and, consequently, the healthcare provider they choose.

Any chiropractor looking to grow their practice should focus on maximizing their digital footprint and position themselves as an industry authority, educating patients on relevant health matters and standing out as the clear choice for quality, personalized care.

If you run a chiropractic practice, here are seven things to consider to increase your digital reach:

1. A Chiropractic Website

All digital marketing efforts eventually lead to your website. Therefore, you should optimize its design to ensure that visitors get a good first impression. You should also structure your website and content in such a manner as to drive visitors to convert by taking actions such as calling your practice, submitting forms, and booking appointments. Other things you can do to set your chiropractic website apart include:

  • Show patient reviews to offer social proof
  • Take custom pictures for your site, instead of using cliché stock photos
  • Include an online appointment booking feature
  • Optimize the website structure for search engines

2. Paid Ad Campaigns

Traffic from Google Ads is a low-hanging fruit that you should not ignore. Patients are already searching for chiropractors in your area, and posting a Google Ad for a related keyword will conveniently place you at the top of the search results.

3. SEO Optimization

Search engine optimization helps your website rank higher in organic search results. A higher ranking means more traffic to your website. There are two main listings to rank for - Google Maps/Google My Business listings and website listings. To rank for the latter, create educational content and resources for your audience, build backlinks, and optimize your website’s technical structure

4. Facebook Ads

Instead of running sales advertisements about your practice that users might ignore, it’s best to focus on building an audience by posting educational videos. You can then promote the videos through ads.

You should then retarget the people who engaged with your content because you already know that they are interested and educated, putting you in a great position to serve them promotional offers.

5. Patient Reviews and Reputation Management

9 out of every 10 people seek to see a business’ reviews before making a purchase. Therefore, you should implement a system to grow your online reviews and share them on your website. This will help you cultivate trust and further grow your reputation in the chiropractic scene.

6. Patient Referral Programs

One of the best ways to get new patients is through referrals from patients whom you’ve served in the past. You can request referrals from your past clients through email and text blasts, digital forms, and offering an incentive for referrals.

7. Chiropractic Marketing Software

CHIROPIPE is a digital marketing tool built to help chiropractors streamline their digital marketing efforts and grow their online presence. Some of the software’s features include:

  • Call tracking
  • Website chat widget
  • Lead tracking/pipeline management
  • Web lead forms
  • Email marketing
