The Florida Orthopaedic Institute (FOI), the largest physician-led orthopedic group in Florida, is proud to announce the addition of two new doctors; Dr. Karen Derr and Dr. Thomas S. Stang.

Dr. Derr takes care of the spine and extremities conditions. She is dedicated and passionate about helping patients receive the best possible results. Her special interests include the non-surgical management and rehabilitation of intervertebral disc-related conditions such as disc degeneration, disc bulging, and disc herniation syndromes. Dr. Derr is seeing patients at the Bloomingdale location.

"We are proud to have Karen Derr, D.C., join our chiropractic team," says Dr. Roy Sanders, president, chief medical officer, and founding member of Florida Orthopaedic Institute.

"We are also pleased to officially welcome one of our recent outstanding trauma fellows, Thomas S. Stang, D.O.," Dr. Sanders said. Dr. Stang served the country in the army for over 16 distinguished years, and when discharged, he moved to Tennessee, where he continued to pursue his love for medicine.

As a trauma osteopathic orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Stang takes a holistic approach to patient care, recognizing that all body parts/systems are interconnected and that the musculoskeletal system is fundamental to wellbeing and quality of life.

Industry Updates

1) Hoag Orthopedic Institute Named '2022-2023 Best Hospital' by U.S. News & World Report

Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI), has been nationally ranked in the top 30 best orthopedic and spine hospitals in U.S. News & World Report's "2022-2023 Best Hospitals" list. The institute has also been recognized as "High Performing" in Back Surgery, Hip Fracture, Hip Replacement, and Knee Replacement.

These rankings and ratings help patients and doctors make better decisions while choosing where to get the best care for elective procedures and troubling health conditions. With the increased number of Americans receiving joint replacements and other orthopedic and spine procedures every year, these rankings come in handy to help those in pain identify the best hospitals and physicians.

According to Steven Barnett, M.D., chief medical officer of HOI, "these rankings will help consumers who need musculoskeletal medical services make informed decisions about their care" Visit HOI's website to learn more about the various awards the hospital has received.

2) Braces Could Be a Total Game-changer for Young Children with Thighbone Fractures

For many years, a surgically placed spica cast has been the commonly used treatment for young children with a broken femur. But now, a new study led by Lindsay Andras, MD, Vice Chief of the Jackie and Gene Autry Orthopedic Center at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, shows that this procedure may soon be over.

The study found that a pre-made functional brace provides the same healing as the spica cast. The treatment does not require anesthesia, and the braces are more manageable for parents to care for. However, when the project began in 2016, Dr. Andras noted two challenges with the results. First, the braces must be customized, which may require expensive equipment. Second, parents had to wait for several days for braces to be made.

Dr. Andras and the team has been proposing adjustments, enrolling patients, and conducting studies to test the effectiveness of the braces. The team expects to complete the study in August 2022.

Meanwhile, many centers are expressing their interest in adopting this treatment. Read more about this treatment and its additional benefits here.

2) How Medical Providers Can Maximize PIP Benefits Recovery

Often, insurance companies fail to cover the costs of your work treating injured people. It can be daunting to deal with health insurers, and sometimes auto insurance companies and collection agencies, and still obtain less recovery than expected.

You can recover more money by deploying our personal injury protection (PIP) recovery system to deal with insurers. At our company, our legal experts have recovered millions of dollars in PIP dollars from insurance companies.

Our recovery method offers speed and transparency for medical providers. Our legal team at Ged Lawyers examines files, submits claims, wins settlements, and goes to trial if necessary.

We don't need any financial investment from medical service providers. All costs will be paid through penalties and interest owed by the insurers.
