This Month in Orthopedics - August 2022

by Marius Ged, on Aug 15, 2022 3:15:04 PM

Keep up with the latest orthopedics news and insights from the industry's trusted legal partner, Ged Lawyers. Here is an overview of what happened this month in the orthopedics field.

What’s New in FL Orthopedics

1) NYU Langone Brings New Orthopedic Services to West Palm Beach

An NYU medical facility in Palm Beach County is expanding to accommodate additional patients and specializations.

NYU Langone Medical Center in West Palm Beach is expanding its emotional support, women's health, and orthopedic services. Leaders argue that increasing the number of physicians and expanding specializations are necessary to meet demand.

A recent Florida Department of Health survey discovered that Palm Beach County residents have a "lack of easy access to care," among other health-related difficulties." When they have a problem, they don't want to be sent all over town," said Dr. Louis Snyder. He supervises NYU Langone Medical Center in West Palm Beach.

Doctor Snyder, a native New Yorker who has lived in South Florida for over three decades, believes that as more individuals from the northeast relocate to Palm Beach County, it is easier for them to trust a practice with which they are comfortable.

Snyder claims that they may see up to 250 patients every day, and during peak season, the West Palm Beach facility sees twice as many patients as it does in the offseason.

Industry Updates

1) Geisinger Partners with Group Purchasing Organizations to Reduce the Cost of Spine and Orthopedic Devices

Based in Danville, Pennsylvania, Geisinger has teamed with Excelerate to save patients money on surgical supplies by utilizing a physician-engagement sourcing approach.

According to a July 20 press release, Excelerate, a group purchasing organization, will assist Geisinger in reducing the cost of implants and devices by consolidating supply chain spending and reducing the variation of products used across the health system while taking physician preference into account.

According to the press announcement, Excelerate serves over 100 clients who save 15 to 20% on surgical materials. In a press release, Michael Suk, MD, chief physician officer and chair of the department of orthopedic surgery, said, "Working with Excelerate will enable us to provide high-quality care to our patients at a lower cost by leveraging their quality-first model for patient-centered decisions regarding the devices and supplies used by our physicians."

"Our physicians and staff are essential drivers of this effort, and with their help, we will be able to make improved health more accessible to our patients through clinical-supply integration."

2) Hip Implant System Boosts Stability after Replacement Surgery

Hip Innovation Technology, an orthopedic device company, said on July 20 that a unique reverse hip implant system showed promise in improving hip stability following complete hip replacement surgery.

According to phase one data from the company's study, patients who utilized its technology had a greater possibility of long-term hip replacement success.

In a news release from Hip Innovation Technology, Dr. Thomas Turgeon, MD, principal investigator and head of arthroplasty research at Canada's Concordia Hip and Knee Institute, said, "Instability following total hip arthroplasty is a prevalent mechanism of failure." "The reverse hip replacement system is intended to improve stability at extremes of motion and to provide a possibly more forgiving implant location without limiting the range of motion."

Dr. Turgeon and his colleagues presented their findings last month at the Canadian Orthopedic Association's annual meeting. It was based on the experiences of 22 people with the reverse hip replacement device. They observed that over 24 months, those individuals demonstrated substantial improvements in hip and pain rehabilitation.

According to a news release from Hip Innovation Technology, the reverse hip replacement method differs from conventional complete hip replacement systems by positioning the ball on a trunnion within the acetabular cup rather than within the femoral stem.

Growing Your Practice

1) Social Media Tips You Need to Use for Your Orthopedic Practice

Social Media Marketing 2

For orthopedic practices, it may make sense to push advertisements on social media targeted at potential patients. Below are some suggestions for your orthopedic practice's use of social media:

1. Ensure You Have an Online Presence

Before you begin developing a social media strategy, you need to ensure that you have an internet presence. This is significant since your social media approach will entice your viewers to visit your website for more information.

2. Create a Content Calendar Each Month

Once your website looks fantastic and you have set up all your social media outlets, you should make a content calendar. A content schedule guarantees everything is planned, spell-checked, and stays on topic.

Remember that even with a content calendar, your company will need someone to monitor all social channels to respond to comments, complaints, etc.

The benefit of using social media on a budget is that your practice may specify precisely how much money you have to spend on it, ensuring that you don't spend more than your allotted amount every day, week, and month.

3. Request that Patients Review Your Orthopedic Practice

One of the finest social media recommendations is to ask patients to leave reviews on sites like Facebook, Yelp, and Google Reviews. The more authority your orthopedic practice receives, the more authority it will have.

2) NOT Signing A POA Costs Medical Providers Time and Money. Here's why.

Why does Ged Lawyers want a Power of Attorney Agreement from medical providers? The explanation is simple: otherwise, the process would be disorderly and inefficient. If our attorneys lack the power to pursue a medical provider's unpaid or underpaid personal injury protection (PIP) claims, we'll need a more considerable time commitment from the provider's office.

By signing a Power of Attorney, you appoint our attorneys to communicate with insurers and act as authorized and limited by the Power of Attorney instrument. Our legal specialists have an efficient, straightforward, and legally compliant approach to seeking treatment of up to $50,000 under HIPAA based on your written permission to have us represent you.

Both parties guarantee that HIPAA regulations are followed in all aspects of representation through our Attorney-Provider Agreement and signed Power of Attorney.

While we represent you, you have complete control over your case, thanks to our user-friendly, HIPAA-compliant client site. Check the status of our demand letters and recovery progress from anywhere, at any time.
